Preventative Maintenance

The concept for Corporate Aviation Group’s Preventative Maintenance (PM) program has been in practice for many years.  Clean, inspect, and monitor each airplane before potential problems arise.  The ultimate goal, deliver to our Partners the safest and most satisfying flying experience possible. Most corporate aircraft aren’t put through any type of casual inspection or cleaning until the manufacturer requires the operator to do so.

Every month, all Corporate Aviation Group employees spend several hours together completing an entire PM for one aircraft. We use a 30+ item checklist to keep track of fluid levels, tire pressures, light bulbs, and many other aspects of the aircraft. The real advantage is that by doing these checks on a regular basis, we are able to see trends develop. An example would be a small fluid leak or tire pressure fluctuation that can be repaired before it develops into a large problem. Another advantage besides catching problems early is cost savings for small repairs. With the assistance of David who is a certified Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic.  When we find something like a burnt-out landing light, he can replace it with a $35 bulb, instead of $115 for the bulb plus $125 for the labor the repair shop would likely charge.

In addition to inspecting the aircraft, we do a thorough cleaning. Top to bottom, inside and out. The leading edges of the wings and tail are buffed and polished.  This has a twofold benefit. First the polishing leaves a mirror-like shine and second also removes any contaminants such as dried salt water which could cause corrosion and premature wear. Once all the bugs, grease, and grime are removed, the exterior of the aircraft is finished with a substance called Aero-Glaze. Aero-Glaze is a specialized fluid for use on aircraft that works to clean and protect all painted surfaces.  Having a clean aircraft not only looks great but extends the life span of the paint which reduces the need for costly aircraft repainting.   Inside the aircraft, the windows are washed, carpet vacuumed, seats cleaned, and leather conditioner applied to extend their life span. Additionally we look through all the aircraft snacks and drinks to make sure we always have a fresh stock available for our Partners.

While safety is always our number one priority, we also take great pride in the appearance of the aircraft we operate for our Partners and strive to keep them in the best condition possible. Taking a quick look around most ramps will reveal that not all owners/operators feel the same way about their aircraft. The extra time spent on Preventative Maintenance is well worth it to provide additional safety, cost savings, and overall appearance of the aircraft.
